Google added Brave Search to Chrome; Brave is using it to push Brave Browser

Google recently added Brave Search to Chrome’s list of available search engines, giving users another option for what powers searches in the browser.

Now, Brave is using that placement in Chrome to promote its own browser.

If you set Brave Search as Chrome’s default search engine, its results page may show a sticky “Get Brave Browser” prompt at the bottom of the screen. It asks users to “Browse privately with Brave” and includes a button to download the browser.

The prompt stays at the bottom as you scroll through search results, keeping the Brave Browser promotion in view while you search.

That means someone can choose Brave Search without leaving Chrome, only to be encouraged to leave Chrome for Brave Browser.

Brave Search does not require Brave Browser. You can use it in Chrome or another browser and continue using the browser you already have.

DuckDuckGo has previously used its search-results page to promote its own browser to Chrome users, so Brave is not the first search engine to try this approach.

Chrome has only recently added Brave Search as an available search-engine option, and Brave is already using that foothold to market its browser to Chrome users.

The prompt can be dismissed and does not block or alter the search results. It stays visible while users browse.

Google app for Windows adds In-App Search modes for Images, Videos, News and more

The latest update to the Google app for Windows (version 1.0.22.0) adds dedicated Search modes, letting users switch between different types of Google results without opening an external browser.

The app brings Google Search to the desktop as a standalone client, with features including AI Mode and Google Lens. Users can quickly open it with the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut and can also share their entire screen with the Google app to get help with what’s displayed.

This update expands its Search experience by adding access to more of Google’s search verticals without requiring a separate browser window.

After running a query, users can switch between All, Images, Videos, News, Forums and Books using the Search tabs at the top of the results. Additional options, including Shopping, Maps and Finance, are available under the “More” menu.

The change appears in the Google app’s September 13, 2026 changelog, which lists the feature as “In-App Search Modes” and specifically calls out Images, Videos, News, Forums and Books.

For SEOs and marketers, the update is another sign that Google wants more searches to start and stay within its own surfaces on desktop. As users can now browse vertical results entirely in-app, the change could affect click-through to publisher sites, particularly for queries involving images, videos or forum content.

Google tests What people are saying in AI Mode

Google is testing a “What people are saying” section within AI Mode. Previously, this feature appeared only in the main “All” tab of search results, but we’ve now been able to replicate it within AI Mode as well. In AI Mode, it shows results pulled from online discussion forums.

Here is a screenshot of how it looks.

Here is the desktop view it doesn’t look exactly like how it appears on mobile, but I spotted this on desktop as well.

Bringing this feature into AI Mode gives users a way to see community-driven perspectives and discussions directly within the AI-generated response, similar to how it functions in traditional search results.

Google tests new sitelink design in sponsored ads

new sitelink design in sponsored ads

Google is testing yet another new design for sitelinks in ads. We’ve been seeing several design variations from Google recently, having previously covered the +2 sitelinks format and review summaries, among others. Today, we spotted another new design Google is currently testing.

In the new design, Google shows a subheading below the description with the website icon, labeled ‘More from [Website Name],‘ followed by all the sitelinks below it.

Here’s a screenshot of how it looks.

Google hasn’t confirmed this test, so treat it as a limited experiment for now it may not be showing up for all advertisers yet.

Have you seen this new sitelink design appear in your own search ads?

Bing tests new filters above shopping results ads

filters above shopping results ads

Bing is testing new filters for shopping results. These filters appear above the shopping ads, and clicking one changes the results accordingly.

I spotted this yesterday and assume it’s new, since I hadn’t seen this before. Personally, I like this filter because it can be helpful for users who don’t find what they’re looking for on the first try instead of typing a new keyword into the search box, they can simply apply a filter instead.

Here is a screenshot of how it looks.

Showing filters above shopping ads could catch users‘ attention more easily, and clicking through these filters may help users find what they’re looking for faster potentially increasing conversions for the websites featured in those results.
