More YouTube creators will be able to earn money from AliExpress recommendations

YouTube creators in four more countries are set to gain a way to earn commissions from AliExpress products featured in their videos. AliExpress announced that its YouTube Shopping partnership will expand to the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Germany, following its South Korean launch in March.

The October 20 announcement covers product tags in long videos, Shorts and livestreams. It gives no date when every eligible channel in those markets will have access, so creators will need to check their own YouTube Studio offers.

Product tags take viewers to AliExpress to buy

Participating creators will be able to select AliExpress products within Studio and attach them to relevant videos. Viewers follow those tags to AliExpress to complete the purchase, with commissions earned on qualifying sales.

AliExpress highlights its Brand+ selection of international and local brands as part of the partnership. It has not announced a single commission percentage that applies to the whole expansion.

YouTube’s affiliate guidance says each retailer sets product commission rates and the period in which a purchase can qualify after a click. The offers appear under Earn, Shopping and Explore affiliate offers in Studio.

Channel access has its own requirements. Creators must belong to the YouTube Partner Program and meet its subscriber threshold; the affiliate program excludes music channels, Official Artist Channels and channels aimed at children, among other restrictions.

A sale needs to survive the return period

A product’s price alone won’t tell a creator what a video could earn. A lower-priced item with a higher commission may produce more income per qualifying sale, while a returned purchase can remove the commission altogether.

YouTube says affiliate earnings are paid through AdSense within 60 to 120 days after purchase to allow for returns. Those general payment terms are useful when planning production costs, especially for a video made well before the revenue arrives.

Checkout remains on the retailer’s website, as YouTube’s merchant guidance confirms. Its affiliate reporting tracks sales, orders, commissions and clicks, so a popular video and a revenue-generating video can be evaluated separately.

Publishers also need to keep these links within YouTube. The affiliate rules prohibit sending traffic from external websites through YouTube affiliate links, so a tagged video doesn’t supply a shopping link that can simply be reused in a website article.
